Five Totally Giftable Books This Season

I love a great book, especially if the pictures are to die for. (And I think that’s a totally ok reason to pick up a book!) Over the past year or so, I have found five books that would make great gifts for friends and loved ones.

In this article, enjoy five giftable book recommendations for this holiday season!

1. For a close friend:

Seafoam Green by Hallie Herald

Hallie’s debut poetry book (which is released December 7, 2022) is a gripping and honest collection of poetry that is reflective of the human experience. Happiness and hurt, good and evil, life and death. These poems are reflective, personal, and relatable. I have enjoyed a read ahead copy (I painted the cover for her book!) and highly recommend it as a gift for an close friend.

2. For a School Age Kid:

Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Elements by Lisa Congdon

Lisa Congdon is one of my favorite contemporary illustrators, and this illustrated chemistry book makes me want to travel time back to Mr. Jevic’s chemistry class and take it all over again. She released this book last year, and it is full of fun drawings and relatable facts about science and chemistry, in her signature style that you can’t help but grin throughout.

3. For Fun Times in the Kitchen:

Baking Imperfect by Lottie Bedlow

A fan favorite on the Great British Baking Show (and mayyyy have inspired the name of our youngest daughter), Lottie Bedlow’s cookbook is quippy and irresistible. Her baking personality shines through and the recipes are full of British inspired, delicious goods with beautiful photos (a must!)

4. For the Art Nerd (hiii!!!)

John Singer Sargent, His Life and Works in 500 Images by Susie Hodge

I bought this book as a treat this summer and have loved soaking up the details of John Singer Sargent’s work and life. He’s one of my all time favorite painters, and this book does not disappoint in indulging any Sargent lovers curiosity.

5. For the Adventure Taker:

A Midshipman’s Journey, Plebe to Officer at the United States Naval Academy through a Graduate’s Eyes and Painter’s Brush by Kristin Cronic (that’s me!!!)

I wrote a book!! Did you know, alongside my regular studio practice, I also paint under an alias? For four years I have been painting moments of the transformation that takes place at the United States Naval Academy (my alma mater). It was always my dream to turn them into a coffee table book, and it’s finally happening.

This book is part long form creative project, part military story, and part adventure- I wrote it in a way that anyone who has (or will be) embarking on an adventure that could change their lives would appreciate. It is full of paintings and prose about a life changing journey.
